David Beckham used his clout with the FA to make his son Romeo an England mascot for tonight's game with Switzerland as a late 13th birthday present.

Romeo emerged from the tunnel at Wembley tonight alongside England captain Wayne Rooney who was seeking the goal that would see him overtake Bobby Charlton as England's leading goalscorer of all-time.

Beckham senior, speaking to ITV ahead of the game, said: "Romeo is obviously very lucky as part of his 13th birthday - because of a few connections still at the FA - is one of the mascots, so he is excited."
