Romance was in the air in the Aviva Stadium today when a man - aided by the stadium announcer - proposed to his girlfriend during an Irish rugby open training session.

As Joe Schmidt's men went through their paces on the Aviva turf, Paulo Eduardo got down on one knee and proposed to a shocked looking Jessica Moraes, who gracefully said yes.

Eduardo even got the stadium PA to help out and the whole event was heard by the hundreds of Ireland fans in the stands and, quite possibly, the rugby stars on the pitch.

An IRFU spokesperson told Independent.ie that the engagement looked to be spur of the moment and was not organised through Irish rugby channels.

"The stadium announcer went over to the couple and said to Paulo: 'I believe you have to ask your girlfriend something'?.

"Then all you could see was the proposal and her saying yes before they left the stadium."
