Paddy Power wraps shop in bubble wrap to make it 'yob-proof' ahead of Ireland vs England in latest PR stunt
This one could raise an eyebrow or two.
Paddy Power have wrapped a shop front in bubble wrap in order to make it "yob-proof" ahead of this Sunday's match between Ireland and England at the Aviva.
"With Ireland and the old enemy set to clash for the first time since English hooligans tore Lansdowne Road to pieces, Paddy Power have moved to protect their closest shop to the ground by 'Yob-Proofing' the exterior of their Baggot Street branch," a press release for the company stated - with tongue firmly planted in cheek one imagines.
The stunt saw the bookmaker cover the entire shop in bubble wrap "in [the] hope of avoiding any damage that many come from violent yobs, knobs and hooligans who may infiltrate the Three Lions' well-meaning travelling support".
A dog, bike and parked car were also wrapped in bubble wrap and tape marked #YobProof.
Paddy Power, a spokesperson for the gambling firm, defended the move, and threw in a reference to Cromwell for good measure.
"It's not that I'm anti-English.
"Some of my best friends are English. But you can't deny they have sent us some bad eggs over time. Cromwell for example. He would have smashed up The Aviva if it was around in teh 1600s.
"Us Irish wage war in a more subtle way. We just pillage their players and send Louis Walsh," he said.
Separately, the bookmakers are offering 25/1 for "history to repeat itself and the match to be abandoned" and odds of "11/4 for more than 10 fans to be arrested at the stadium".
