Mayo lost out on a place in a third successive All Ireland Final in agonising fashion, but the performance of one particular supporter caught the attention.
The tension towards the end was too much for one fan as his team trailed by three points at the end of extra time in the Gaelic Grounds in limerick and steward intervention was required to remove the man from the field of play.
Disappointment was the lot of the mayo faithful yet again, but his actions caused a stir online.
On the journey home the fan revelled in his new found fame at a food stop at Supermacs, receiving cheers of encouragement on arrival while many waited to get their picture taken with the Mayo native.
The Twitterati were mixed in their view, with many finding it amusing and others calling for a lifetime ban for his actions.
Here is a pick of the tweets.

Mayo should sign up the pitch invader as a Plan B. It took about 10 stewards and his daughter to drag him off.— Andrew Danson (@aadanchelo) August 30, 2014
