An Arsenal fan took goal celebrations to a whole new level on Sunday after Danny Welbeck’s winning effort against Leicester left one supporter with a hernia that required him to undergo surgery.
Scott Woods, uploaded a picture to social media to reveal that he had celebrated Welbeck’s injury-time header a bit more than he should have. Having been left in pain after Arsenal had battled from behind to win the Premier League clash 2-1, Woods admitted that he had pain in his stomach and felt “under the weather” the following day.
Woods decided to go to hospital as a precaution, where it was revealed that he had suffered a hernia and would need surgery to repair the damage.
Speaking to The Metro, Woods said: “I was jumping around with my dad and hugging my dad. Felt under the weather on Monday and then had to go to hospital in the middle of the night last night.”
The victory meant that Arsenal closed the gap to Leicester with just two points separating the league-leading Foxes and the north London duo of Tottenham and the Gunners, with Spurs currently second on goal difference.
And given Arsenal could yet go on to end their 12-year title drought this season, Woods admitted he’s going to have to tone down the celebrations if it means another hernia.
“After this I think I’m going to be taking it a bit easier for a while,” he added.
“But in reality it’ll be something similar I’d imagine. Not sure the hernia was worth the 15 minutes of fame.
“If Arsenal win the league it will be!”
