'I just wanted to give Brian Cody something to look at' - Kilkenny streaker has ambitions to repeat his cheeky action in Croke Park
The Kilkenny fan who ran across Nowlan Park in nothing but his socks and his county's flag has said his actions were for the entertainment of the Cats' boss.
Stephen Clifford (29) was attending Kilkenny's homecoming celebrations when he took his friends up on an interesting bet.
"One of the lads turned to me and said 'I bet you wouldn't streak across the park'. I just said bet you I would' and that was that," the flasher told the Sunday World.
'Stevie the Streaker' received his moniker from his friends after leading six gardai on a chase around the park, stunning 10,000 fans who were in attendance.
He was handed a €200 fine and 80 hours of community service after the streak on Monday night - not to mention a nippy night in a cell - but the diehard fan said it was all worth it.
"Sure we win it every year and it's always the same thing in Nowlan Park. Well this year I said I'd shake it up a bit and that's exactly what I did," he said.
"The thing that was going through my head was 'well at least I gave Brian Cody something to look at'".
Stephen, who still lives at home with his parents, relied on his mam to drop him down clothes after being shut in a cell with just his socks on.
"I'd say I was two minutes on the pitch before the gardai caught me. They kept trying to grab me, but there was nothing to grab hold of.
"The gardai who brought me down to the station were struggling to keep a straight face and one of them even called me a legend.
"They gave me a bib to cover myself and put me in a cell."
A video of the incident - taken by one of Stephen's friends - captures the streak that Stephen regrest "not a bit".
"I might even do Croke park next year."
