Frock-o-meter: Will Eamon Dunphy have to wear a dress on TV?
RTE pundit Eamon Dunphy will perhaps be a little relieved at England’s defeat at the hands of Italy which has reduced his chances of having to don a dress live on television.
The outspoken pundit dismissed England’s chances of emerging from the group during his World Cup preview, suggesting that John Terry would be too big a loss in defence and that too many players were simply not good enough.
“If England reach the quarter-finals, I’ll show up with a dress on,” he said on the opening night of the tournament.
Dunphy will perhaps have breathed a sigh of relief when Mario Balotelli scored the winner for Italy in Manaus to give Roy Hodgson’s side a real uphill challenge to emerge from Group D.
Their next game against Uruguay, who were humbled by Costa Rica, will be a winner takes all encounter, with a win for the Three Lions putting them back into contention.
Our frock-o-meter is currently at “It’s a good suit, not a great suit”, but Dunphy could yet be watching nervously when England take on Costa Rica in the final group game should they turn their tournament around against Luis Suarez and co next Thursday.
