Frock-o-meter: Eamon Dunphy unlikely to don dress for live TV

Published 19/06/2014 | 22:22

Following England’s defeat at the hands of Uruguay tonight it looks like the nation will be spared witnessing RTE pundit Eamon Dunphy wear a dress on television.

The outspoken pundit dismissed England’s chances of emerging from the group during his World Cup preview, suggesting that John Terry would be too big a loss in defence and that too many players were simply not good enough.

“If England reach the quarter-finals, I’ll show up with a dress on,” he said on the opening night of the tournament.

Italy’s defeat of Roy Hodgson’s men in the opening game will have settled Dunphy’s nerves and while it is mathematically possible that England can emerge from their group, it now appears highly unlikely after brace from Luis Suarez sent the Three Lions to a second successive defeat.

Considering what was at stake, perhaps it is just as well.
