Maria Sharapova managed to go unspotted as she travelled on the Tube yesterday, after she spent the day at Queen’s.

She is one of tennis’ most recognisable faces, but Londoners were seemingly underwhelmed by her appearance on the Piccadilly line on  June 10.

The Russian sportswoman – who was in London to watch boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov beat Britain's James Ward in the second round of the Queen's Club Aegon Championships – took a picture of herself on the London Underground, while her fellow commuters appeared characteristically bored and uninterested in the background.

Th secret to her Tube anonymity? A pair of oversized glasses apparently.

She admits that the London Underground isn’t always her transport of choice, writing under her Twitter picture that she only uses it “occasionally”.

The world number five won the French Open on 7 June, beating Simona Halep in the final at Roland Garros. To celebrate her win, the 27-year-old staged a photoshoot in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris – wearing a Jay Ahr mini dress – drawing crowds in their droves.

With Wimbledon round the corner, keep your eyes peeled for Sharapova… coming soon to a sweaty summer tube near you.
