Ex-Chelsea defender David Luiz has vowed to abstain from sex until after he is married to girlfriend Sara Madeira.
The Brazilian international publicised his stance after being baptised into the Pentecostal Hillsong Church in team-mate Maxwell's in-house swimming pool on Friday.
Alongside a photo of the ceremony, the Brazil defender revealed on Instagram, "I have chosen to wait", echoing the sentiments of international team-mate Kaka, who also waited until his wedding day at the age of 23 before "being intimate".
"The majority of people say that after marriage, they don’t like jumping into bed with their partner because there is no desire. However, this is not true, my wife is the person I love and it was worth waiting.
“I think people need to prevent themselves from making love before marriage. Of course, everyone has their own opinions but I think it was worth the wait."
PSG star Luiz began his social media post by quoting the Bible:
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV)"
He continued to say:
Assim que, se alguém está em Cristo, nova criatura é: as coisas velhas já passaram; eis que tudo se fez novo. (2Coríntios 5:17 ARC). Como é maravilhoso viver contigo Senhor, obrigado por me amar tanto e cuidar de mim! A minha vida é tua,e eu sou teu servo! Que estejas sempre no centro de todas as minhas decisões! Eu te amo meu Deus! Amém
"How wonderful to live with you Lord , thank You for loving me so much and take care of me ! My life is yours, and I am your servant ! What 're always in the center of all my decisions ! I love my God ! amen"
