Chelsea's medical staff were the centre of attention at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday following a tumultuous week behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge.

Jose Mourinho dropped Chelsea first-team doctor Eva Carneiro and head physiotherapist Jon Fearn over the controversy surrounding their treatment of Eden Hazard in last weekend's 2-2 draw against Swansea.

Academy doctor Chris Hughes and physio Steven Hughes were promoted to the bench. Here, Press Association Sport looks at how their afternoon unfolded.

44th minute: After an uneventful opening, the pair are called into action when Gary Cahill goes down with a bloody nose.

Both Steven and Chris Hughes go over to treat the defender amid ironic applause from the home support, who also sing 'You're getting sacked in the morning' and then shout 'Eva! Eva! Eva!'. As they are treating Cahill on the sidelines, Diego Costa goes down after clashing with Fernandinho.

The game stops and City's physios run over to see if Costa is okay, before Steven Hughes sprints over and bandages the striker's bloody head.

63: Steven Hughes comes to the touchline to throw a bottle of water to Cahill.

80: Steven Hughes and Chris Hughes come to the touchline to treat Cahill's bloody nose again.
