Cycling organisers apologise for bikini-clad women at presentation for women's event
Fresh shame for the sport of cycling! Organisers of the Lotto Cycling Cup have apologised after cyclists were flanked by bikini-clad women on the winners podium.
Given that the cycling tournament is a women's event, the choice to punctuate the end of the stage with skimpy models in high heels was met with predictable confusion. Sorry did we say confusion - we meant rage...
The Lotto Cycling Cup organisers took to Twitter to firstly apologise for the incident.
And then to completely wash their hands of any responsibility for the event - pardon us if we're speaking out of turn - but isn't the one and only responsibility of an event organiser?
We don't know about you, but the most uncomfortable thing about the whole scene is how painfully bikini-wearing awkward the women are. Their face paints an expression which which says 'why are you doing this to me, dear God have mercy'.
One rogue commentator argued that this kind of ceremony should be rolled out for the Tour de France and even took the trouble of mocking up how it would look.
