Coronation Street producers fear their live showpiece will be disrupted - by the noise from Old Trafford.

The Mancunian soap will broadcast live tonight for an hour long episode to mark ITV's 60th anniversary, but another event across the road is set to rival the landmark event.

The episode is set to coincide with Manchester United's Capital One Cup clash against Ipswich at Old Trafford, and there are growing fears that the atmosphere from the Theatre of Dreams will be audible on set.

With Coronation's Street's Trafford Wharf studios just under a mile away from Manchester United's 75,000 seat stadium, producers have taken the precautionary measure of ensuring the set is as sound proof as possible.

Speaking about the moment the Capital One Cup draw was made to coincide with the broadcast, an insider on the soap said: "No one could believe it when it dawned on them what was happening"

Everyone is crossing their fingers that Man United don't score in the first half an hour", he said.

Manchester United meet Championship side Ipswich twenty years on from their record breaking thrashing of the East Anglian side.
