Bernard Brogan jokes about GAA European Cups in response to Sky Sports blunder
Dublin star Bernard Brogan joked that he will be watching a professional European Cup in GAA when he retires in response to Sky Sports much-publicised gaffe today.
The broadcaster is finding it feet in the world of Gaelic Games and when anchor Mike Wedderburn announced the Footballer Of The Year nominations
Unfortunately he got his wires a little mixed-up.
"All England champions Dublin dominate this year's Player of the Year shortlist," he incorrectly said, which was quickly picked up on by Irish viewers.
Brogan, one of the three nominees for the gong, laughed off the mistake and said all exposure for the game was welcome.
“They [Sky Sports] have had a few funny ones in the past,” he told independent.ie.
“It’s great for our game to spread over there [UK], to see the likes of Joey Barton and the Queen mentioning our games. That’s only good for our games.
“We’re all Gaels and we want to see our games expand.”
He even joked about a competition he expects to see long after he has hung up his playing boots.
“In time, when I’ll be retired and it’s a professional game, and the lads are playing in European Cups in GAA, that’s where I’ll be."
