Avid Leicester fan to name unborn child after Jamie Vardy following online petition
A Leicester City fan has convinced his partner to name their unborn child after star striker Jamie Vardy after he launched an online petition.
Ashley Marriott, from Leicester, will give his daughter the middle name Vardy after he hit a target of 5,000 signatures after setting up the petition.
Speaking in the Leicester Mercury the “massive” Foxes fan said: “Jokingly the other night she [Mr Marriott's partner Daisy] said to me, 'I've been following your campaign, it's not really got anywhere', and the day after...it went everywhere," Mr Marriott said.
"I'm happy and I think she's taken to it now - there's no way you can back out from it now."
He said that his partner was not overly keen on the idea at first but has now been persuaded.
Mr Marriott added: "I kept saying about it and she thought I was joking, but I was serious. I wanted it to happen so I had to do something to show I was serious."
The petition went online last week and in that time gained 5000 signatures from all corners of the globe. Mr Marriot said his partner “gave in” after seeing the reaction.
He said he was in awe of Leicester’s and Jamie Vardy’s achievement this season.
The Foxes have had a season beyond all expectation and are currently on top of the Premier League. Vardy’s season has also been one of mammoth proportions, breaking the record for goals scored in consecutive games with 11.
This time last year club was bottom of the league and looked a certainty for relegation. However they put a good string of results together at the end of last season and managed to survive the drop. They are now favourites for the league title
They have twelve games left in the current season.
