Ireland's Aileen Reid finished a superb second in Saturday's final leg of the World Triathlon Series in Hyde park in London.

Reid finished 25 seconds behind Britain's winner Non Stanford whose victory clinched her this year's World Championship title.

The Derry woman's runner-up finish in London moved her up to eighth overall in the world series.

Reid went into the London leg in 11th place in the standings.

The result marks Ireland’s best ever finish and one that Aileen has been building towards for the past few years.

“There was so much Irish support for the Olympics and again here today, there were Irish flags everywhere along the course.” Aileen commented.
