Ireland women's team name their starting XV for Scotland Six Nations clash

Ireland have named their matchday 23 for this Friday's Six Nations opener against Scotland in Ashbourne as they begin the defence of their Grand Slam crown.

There is one new cap in Phillip Doyle's starting Xv with Saracens and Exiles star Hannah Casey making her debut on the wing.

There is a familiar feel to the selection to face the Scots with players such as Fiona Coghlan, Nora Stapleton, Alison Miller and Lynne Cantwell all set to start. Niamh Briggs, one of the heroes last year's Womens Grand Slam campaign is on the bench.

Uncapped Kerri-Ann Craddock(Sarancens) and Orla Fitzsimons(StMary's) are on the bench.

Philip Doyle, Ireland Women's Head Coach, commented, "We had a good win against the Scots last year but we will need to put in a similar performance this time round to we get a positive result. It is great to be starting off the campaign in Ashbourne and hopefully we can deliver a strong performance."

Ireland team to play Scotland: (15-9) Jackie Shiels, Hannah Casey, Lynne Cantwell, Jenny Murphy, Alison Miller, Nora Stapleton, Amy Davis; (1-8) Fiona Coughlan, Stacey-Lea Kennedy, Ailis Egan, Sophie Spence, Marie-Louise Reilly, Siobhan Fleming, Claire Molloy, Heather O'Brien.

Replacements: (16-23) Gill Bourke, Fiona Hayes, Kerri -Ann Craddock , Orla Fitzsimmons, Paula Fitzpatrick, Larissa Muldoon, Grace Davitt, Niamh Briggs.
