Vickery brace fires Kilkenny

A long and testing campaign by Thurles CBS came to a bitter end in Freshford yesterday when they were out-gunned by Kilkenny CBS.

The losers, who were involved in a marathon Munster final, were undone when Kilkenny CBS blasted home two goals during a devastating three-minute spell early in the second half.

Kilkenny went in at half-time leading by 0-10 to 1-5, but they were rocked shortly after the turn when Tommy Doyle scored a long-range goal. Within a minute, though, Kilkenny were back in front.

Peter Vickery found the back of the net before Brian Kennedy got to the end of an Ollie Walsh delivery moments later and goaled. Vickery completed the Kilkenny rout with his second goal in the last minute.

Thurles had started the better, with Aidan Stakelum flicking a shot from Eddie Burke to the net after 12 minutes. But Kilkenny reacted well to that early setback, with captain Richie Doyle and Stephen Farrell landing scores to steady the ship.
