Tompkins on... Cork v Kerry

"You can't beat motivation as Cork hurlers proved last Sunday. It's something Cork footballers shouldn't lack on Sunday after what happened in last year's All-Ireland final.

"They know that apart from early on, they didn't perform that day.

"Now, they have a chance to make a big statement. Conor (Counihan) will probably learn more about his players on Sunday than at any stage so far.

"Many of them have lost two All-Ireland finals to Kerry so now it's time to stand up and be counted.

"Neither side would be happy heading on the back-door route. The losers will take it, of course, but both have a real incentive to stay on the direct route.

"Cork want to build on the momentum established in the league while Kerry want to avoid a repeat of last year's long haul in the qualifiers.

"I would expect Cork to win on the basis that despite what has happened them against Kerry in Croke Park, they have proven they can match them in Munster. That, plus the fact that Cork's need is greater, should edge them through."
