Tipperary and Kilkenny wait on NHL final sanctions
Friday May 08 2009
Kilkenny and Tipperary were still awaiting to hear last night if any of their players would face proposed sanctions arising from Sunday's NHL final in Thurles.
There has been speculation that a player from either would face proposals for suspension after the Central Competitions Control Committee deliberated and made contact with the referee on Wednesday.
Three players from Kilkenny -- Martin Comerford, Michael Kavanagh and Henry Shefflin -- were all yellow carded in the match, while Tipperary's Declan Fanning was also sent to the line for the rest of the game. It was not anticipated that any of these yellow cards would be upgraded.
The fact that Kilkenny and Tipperary produced such an enthralling and competitive match, a rarity for league hurling, may have tempted the CCCC to overlook the series of borderline incidents that took place.
It is understood that referee John Sexton was to be asked his view on these incidents but, with the championship around the corner the GAA may be keen to avoid becoming caught up in disciplinary quagmires so early on.
