Super-sub Kelly finds net to help Rossies edge out Wicklow
A goal from Roscommon substitute Brendan Kelly in the 52nd minute proved the killer blow to Wicklow's brave second-half fightback at Arklow.
Roscommon had dominated the first half to lead by 0-7 to 0-2 at the break, but Wicklow upped their game after the restart to forge 0-9 to 0-8 ahead at the end of the third quarter.
However, Kelly's goal handed the initiative back to the westerners and Roscommon regained control as star wing-forward Davy Dolan and Declan Nolan stretched their lead to 1-10 to 0-9 with well-taken points on 58 minutes.
And while Wicklow added more points from Thomas Doyle, Chris Kavanagh and John Connors, they fell just short as Roscommon won out.
