Superb Nolan makes the difference as Brendan's stun Kilkenny visitors
A MAGNIFICENT 11-point haul from Emmet Nolan helped St Brendan's pick up a valuable brace of points on home ground in Birr yesterday.
Nolan was inspirational from start to finish as Birr came from behind to stun the Kilkenny students in a thrilling encounter.
Kilkenny CBS had control of the game in the opening stages of the second half but after a hard-fought final 25 minutes, the Birr school deservedly prevailed.
Both sides huffed and puffed in the opening period, with Eoin Hayes standing out for the victors at centre-back.
Shane Cassin was in fine form for the Kilkenny school but the supply into him dried up in the second half.
A first-half penalty from Sean T O'Connor gave Birr the edge at half-time but Kilkenny CBS rallied in the second half through the impressive Kevin Kenny and a 38th-minute goal from Robbie Fitzgerald.
Birr hit back straight away with an opportunist goal from Conor Doughan and late points from Man of the Match Nolan and Connor sealed the deal for the Offaly side despite a nervy final five minutes.
