Staunton seals deal
ST PAT'S, B'RAGGET 1-13 CHARLEVILLE 1-12
FOR an All-Ireland junior club hurling final, this was as good as any Kilkenny-Cork epic but it was the Cats who were dominant as they shaded a thrilling finish on Saturday night.
The Kilkenny men settled to Croke Park like it was their home turf and were 0-4 up after 15 minutes, but Charleville rallied and the score was 0-5 apiece at the break.
A physically stronger Cork team looked to be shading the second half but classy stickwork from Brian Phelan, Seoirse Kenny, Joseph Brennan and Man of the Match Bill Staunton kept Ballyragget ahead.
A Mervyn Gammell goal and then a great 59th-minute equalising point from Brendan Dennehy appeared to clinch extra-time for Charleville but Bill Staunton pounced from the puck-out to fire the winner from distance.
