Slattery's late late show claims title for South Liberties
Monday November 23 2009
SOUTH Liberties produced a stirring second-half display against high winds to snatch their first title in Mallow.
The Limerick champions turned around trailing by 0-7 to 0-5 after playing with the wind. Cork champions Douglas dominated the first half and were still 0-10 to 0-7 in front when the game exploded into life in a dramatic closing 11 minutes.
Davy O'Neill hit an equalising goal for South Liberties, before Mark Harrington put a penalty over the bar for Douglas. Mark Keane edged South Liberties in front but a Richard Murphy free levelled matters again at 1-9 to 0-12 with only two minutes left.
Seconds later Brian Slattery pointed for the Limerick side before hitting a second goal in stoppage-time to render Mark Collins' late goal a consolation.
