Royals survive rally

Meath withstood a grandstand finish from Kildare to round off their league campaign with a win at St Conleth's Park.

It had looked like the Royal County were cruising towards victory when Nicky Horan and Joey Keena pointed just moments after Derek Doran had found the Kildare net to put them nine points ahead with five minutes to go.

Kildare refused to accept defeat, though, and goals from skipper Tony Murphy and Martin Fitzgerald in the space of a minute brought them right back into the game.

Kevin Walzer even had a late chance to score an equalising goal, but he was denied by Shane McGann and Meath held on for the victory.
