Red-hot Ryan helps UL gain sweet revenge

UL 2-20
UCC 1-13

UL surged to an emphatic success in yesterday's quarter-final in Limerick and gained revenge for last year's final defeat to UCC.

Willie Ryan wound up top scorer with a tally of 1-9 and his seventh-minute goal gave UL an early 1-3 to 0-2 lead. They led 1-8 to 0-6 nearing the break, but super points by UCC's best attackers, Luke O'Farrell and Stephen Moylan, left only three between them at the break.

UCC stayed in touch in the early stages of the second-half but were rocked by a second UL goal in the 40th minute from Shane Dooley that left UL ahead by 2-11 to 0-10. UCC rallied with a goal of their own six minutes later from Moylan.

But it was UL who closed strong. A string of points from Ryan, Brian Carroll and Ryan O'Dwyer left them with 10 to spare and a set up last-four date with Waterford IT.
