St Kieran's Col 4-6
Castlecomer CS 1-7
Defending All-Ireland champions St Kieran's College may be sailing under a less than full canvas at the moment, but they still proved too good for Kilkenny neighbours Castlecomer in this lively final at Heywood yesterday.
After they conceded a hat-trick of goals during the opening quarter, 'Comer were left with a mountain to climb.
However, they had first given the winners a bit of a fright when Charles Dwyer smashed a second-minute free to the net.
Kieran's, with John Power leading the way, stormed back and the elegant Kilkenny minor blasted a penalty to the net in their next raid.
Then captain Michael Brennan slipped home a second goal in the sixth minute.
A point from Power was followed by a goal from Aidan Cleere to leave the champions in comfortable territory by the end of the quarter.
Within two minutes of the restart, the game was effectively St Kieran's. First Power shot a point from a free. Then Thomas O'Hanra-han's attempt for a point sailed over the goalie's head and into the net (4-4 to 1-3).
Castlecomer continued to chase, but couldn't get back.
