O'Sullivan on the mark to give Kiltale decisive edge
KILTALE 1-14 KILLYON 0-14
KILTALE returned to the summit of Meath hurling following a five-year absence with victory in the county senior final at Pairc Tailteann.
A goal from Mark O'Sullivan two minutes into the second half proved the crucial score in a match that only came to life in the closing stages.
O'Sullivan got a flick to a Peter Durnin delivery to open up a 1-8 to 0-6 lead and Kiltale eventually went six points clear -- 1-12 to 0-9 -- entering the final quarter.
The dual player accounted for 1-3 over the hour and there was also a fine contribution to the scoring from Jack Regan, who hit seven points, three of which came from play.
Killyon led 0-3 to 0-1 in the early stages but could never quite get to grips with a Kiltale outfit that had the edge for long periods of the game.
With Regan keeping the scoreboard ticking over, Kiltale led by double scores, 0-6 to 0-3, after 22 minutes, and 0-8 to 0-6 at the break.
A Ray Massey pointed free reduced the deficit to the minimum within a minute of the restart before proceedings took a decisive twist following O'Sullivan's goal.
There were still six points between the sides with five minutes remaining and while Killyon applied plenty of late pressure and had points from Padraig McKeown, Massey and David Raleigh, they were unable to make the breakthrough they needed to secure a match-saving goal.
