GAVIN O'MAHONY will captain the Limerick senior hurlers this year.
The 23-year-old defender has been nominated by his club, Kilmallock, the Limerick champions, and manager Donal O'Grady is expected to rubber-stamp the appointment shortly.
O'Mahony, who captained Limerick to the 2005 All-Ireland minor hurling final before making his senior debut in 2007, was one of those to withdraw from the Limerick panel under Justin McCarthy.
A host of other top players are also back in training, including Brian Geary, Stephen Lucey, Damien Reale and Seamus Hickey.
