Thomas O'Hanrahan's 39th-minute goal proved crucial as Thomastown just got the better of Fullen Gaels at a rain-sodden Croke Park.
That goal looked to have set the favourites on course for a comfortable win but Manchester-based Fullen Gaels fought back valiantly.
Fullen Gaels made the brighter start with points from Brendan Moloney and Alan Morrissey, but Thomastown replied in kind through Michael Donnelly and O'Hanrahan.
The Kilkenny men began to dominate possession, with Dessie Walsh particularly influential, and Donnelly punished some Fullen Gaels indiscipline with a series of frees.
The opening goal arrived in the 19th minute when Darren Burke flicked to the net after Jonjo Farrell's shot had been well parried by Tom Goulding, but Gaels hit back with Robbie Power availing of defensive confusion to fire home within a minute.
Both sides were finding their groove at this stage, but Donnelly and Power added points to ensure a 1-10 to 1-8 interval advantage for Thomastown.
Fullen Gaels received a much-needed boost within three minutes of the restart as substitute Alan O'Neill flicked deftly to the net.
However, any momentum that score generated was quickly eroded when O'Hanrahan was on hand to poach a goal from close range with the impressive Dessie Walsh and Burke tagging on points, and they withstood a valiant fightback from the exiles.
