Clare firmly booked a final date with Tipperary on August 8 after they had the easiest of victories over a poor Waterford outfit at Cusack Park, Ennis last night.

Though the visitors drew first blood inside a minute with a Brian O'Halloran point, it was the home side that dominated throughout thereafter and ran out worthy 19-point winners.

From the throw-in, Clare exhibited a palpable hunger and with a two-man full-forward line of senior star Conor McGrath and the impressive David O'Halloran, they proceeded to trouble the Decies.

Top marksman Cathal O'Connell got Clare's opening score with a point from a free in the fourth minute and by the 13th minute they found themselves 1-4 to 0-1 in front.

The first goal came after a great save from Stephen O'Keeffe from McGrath, the quick-thinking David O'Halloran batted to the net from the edge of the square for the key score of the game.

Dominated

By the 23rd minute Clare had opened a 1-8 to 0-1 advantage as their midfield of Colm Galvin and Shane Golden dominated their opponents.

Clare attacker Aaron Cunningham was then through on goal, but a superb diving save by O'Keeffe denied him and the score was 1-11 to 0-4 at half-time.

After the break, the filleting of Waterford continued when Podge Collins goaled in the 36th minute and a final place was on the horizon.

The Banner tagged on a number of good scores as the half progressed and substitute Cathal McInerney, almost added a further goal at the death.
