CATHAL Naughton insists Cork's retired legend Ben O'Connor is the greatest hurler that he has ever seen.
Naughton says that his Newtownshandrum clubmate -- who won two All Stars and three All- Ireland medals -- has had a massive influence on his own career.
O'Connor looked set for another successful season of inter-county hurling after starting in Cork's Allianz NHL Division 1A matches against Waterford and Dublin.
But Naughton was stunned when the news filtered through a fortnight ago that O'Connor had quit.
"It was a big shock. Ben has been unbelievable, the best hurler I'll ever see, play with or play against. He was absolutely unbelievable to me, on and off the field. He was a joy to play with."
