O'Carroll quality helps ladies retain trophy

Ireland 6-9
Scotland 2-2
Camogie-shinty

A masterclass from Kildare's Susie O'Carroll guided Ireland to a comprehensive victory against Scotland in Saturday's international in Ratoath.

The game was over as a contest within 20 minutes. By that stage the hosts had already bagged three goals courtesy of O'Carroll, Roisin O'Keeffe and Collette McSorley, who later added a second.

Restricted by their camans to playing the sliotar on the ground, Scotland never got to grips with the heavy conditions and bad went to worse when their first attack of note resulted in Fiona Mathie being stretchered off.

When play resumed after a lengthy hold-up, Scotland did manage to pull a goal back when Joanne Gillanders swept a cracker past goalkeeper Roisin McKenna.

But it was a brief respite and it wasn't long before Jemma Egan and Aisling Corr goaled to seal Ireland's triumph.
