O'Brien return to training a huge boost for McCarthy
LIMERICK senior hurling manager Justin McCarthy is hopeful that James O'Brien's return to his squad will entice more players back to the panel.
Under-fire McCarthy has received a massive boost when the Bruree clubman returned to training with the Shannonsiders on Tuesday night.
It is believed that selector John Tuohy, who led Bruree to Limerick SHC glory in 2006, played a key role in persuading O'Brien (right) to rejoin the county team.
Reports surfaced in Limerick yesterday indicating that Gavin O'Mahoney and Dinny Moloney may also return to the panel, but neither player trained on Tuesday night and their intentions are unknown.
Limerick County Board secretary Mike O'Riordan confirmed that O'Brien was present at training on Tuesday night and added that the door is open for any other players who wish to return.
O'Brien will bring badly needed experience to a squad littered with rookies, having made his debut for Limerick in 2003.
Meanwhile, a Limerick County Board meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday night and it is expected that the Treaty County's first two outings in the National Hurling League will be discussed.
