Wicklow corner-forward Andy O'Brien was the goal-scoring hero as his side became outright division leaders at Aughrim yesterday.
Jonathan O'Neill sealed the win with an injury-time free after O'Brien's two goals lifted Wicklow, who had to play half the match with 14 after sub Enan Glynn was sent off just before half-time.
O'Brien's first came after 14 minutes when Wicklow were playing against the wind to set up a 1-7 to 0-9 half-time lead. Derry regained the lead in the second half and were ahead by 0-15 to 1-11 when O'Brien lofted over a point, followed by his second goal.
Paddy Kelly goaled for Derry to level matters but O'Neill's point sealed victory.
