Nimmo hat-trick destroys Meath

Monday February 06 2012

ST PAT'S DRUMcomdra 5-16 MEATH 1-16

THE final of this competition will be an all-colleges affair after holders Meath suffered a comprehensive semi-final defeat at Pairc Tailteann.

Wexford's Kevin Nimmo took full advantage of a porous Meath rearguard to bag three goals, two of which came in the opening period.

The sides were level 2-5 to 1-8 after 25 minutes before a Nimmo goal and two points from Niall Arthur gave the visitors a 3-7 to 1-8 interval lead.

The students firmly established their authority with the opening four points of the second half, three of which came from Arthur.

And despite the accuracy of Nicky Horan, there was no way back for Meath after that, and Nimmo completed his hat-trick on 50 minutes.

Roscommon 3-6

Armagh held off a late Roscommon comeback to take the spoils in Athleague.

The visitors enjoyed the better of the opening period and two goals inside the first five minutes from Neil Duffy and Conor Corvan set them up for a 3-6 to 1-5 interval lead.

Roscommon rallied on the resumption, despite Armagh's fourth goal from Tony Duffy, but green flags from substitute Cillian Egan and a 20-metre free from Gerry Fallon weren't enough to halt Armagh's gallop towards victory.
