KEVIN Moran will captain the Waterford senior hurlers this season.
Moran (25) will take over the role from Michael 'Brick' Walsh (29), who enjoyed a second spell as captain in 2012.
Recently retired Waterford star John Mullane has revealed that he was offered the position in September by manager Michael Ryan.
Instead, Mullane's De La Salle clubmate Moran will lead the team out in the forthcoming Waterford Crystal Cup, National League and championship campaigns.
Mullane and Moran were Waterford's two All Star recipients last year –it was the latter's first award. Moran was brilliant in the 2012 championship at left half-back, and Ryan has sounded him out about the captaincy.
The two-time Munster SHC medallist has won two Fitzgibbon Cup medals with Waterford IT, and captained the successful 2008 team.
At club level, he has won three Waterford SHC titles with De La Salle and captained the team to county glory last year.
Moran, who has played in defence, midfield and attack for Waterford, has also won two AIB Munster club medals with DLS.
