BRIAN MORAN scored 10 points as Mayo beat Armagh in Crossmaglen, but it was Armagh's 15 first-half wides and a missed penalty that proved the main talking point.

Mayo raced into a 0-8 to 0-1 lead with 15 minutes played but Armagh, buoyed with points from captain Paul McCormack, Paul Breen and John Corvan, managed to claw a way back into the game and even take a 0-11 to 0-9 lead at half-time. In the second half, Mayo introduced dual star Keith Higgins and he had the desired effect by first pointing and then playing a vital linking role. Mayo tightened matters up at the back and they finished strongly to pick up a deserved win.
