GARY MOORE was once again Wexford's chief marksman as they secured a comfortable victory over an experimental Kilkenny side in Blackwater.
The sharpshooter scored 1-5 to continue his amazing run of scoring, his goal coming from a penalty just on the break.
Kilkenny, with a host of new names in their selection, enjoyed wind advantage in the opening half and led by 0-9 to 0-4 midway through the first period as centre-forward Rory Hickey showed admirable accuracy from frees, picking off some excellent scores from a variety of angles as the Cats pressurised the home side.
Wexford, however, gradually played themselves into the game and added a crucial 1-2 in the closing five minutes of the first half, the goal arriving in the 35th minute through a Moore penalty after Michael O'Regan had been fouled.
That left the teams level at the break, 1-7 to 0-10.
The sides were still deadlocked 14 minutes into the second half but a Podge Doran goal in the 49th minute made it 2-10 to 0-13 and gave Wexford some breathing space.
From there to the finish, the Model County men got completely on top of their rivals as they made far better usage of the elements to pick off further scores.
Moore, Eoin Doyle, Doran – who had an impressive outing in the corner of the attack – and PJ Nolan all notched some excellent scores as Wexford outscored their opponents by eight points to three in the closing stages.
