Model men struggle on
WEXFORD lifted the gloom ever so slightly but were anything but impressive despite this 12-point win at Wexford Park yesterday.
They may have been hoping to erase the memory of their disastrous showing against Carlow, but their first touch and striking was way below what manager Colm Bonnar would expect and, despite the score, Wexford rarely looked like getting a goal.
Kildare kept themselves in touch for the opening 20 minutes at which stage they just trailed by a point, 0-5 to 0-4, but they struggled in the closing minutes of the half, allowing the home side stretch into a six-point interval lead, 0-12 to 0-6. Wexford's Harry Kehoe and Peter Atkinson looked sprightly in attack, while it was the freetaking of Billy White which contributed Kildare's first four points.
Kildare resumed with a David Harney point but were unable to build on it. Darren Stamp then shot over a huge 80-metre point for Wexford who put daylight between the teams with further points from Diarmuid Lyng, Andrew Shore and Rory Jacob.
