Minor hurling semi-final deserved replay
THE regulation that All-Ireland minor championship semi-finals which finish level must go to extra-time is, indeed, clear but, like much of the small print in the GAA rulebook, it only becomes an issue at times of confusion.
And since it wasn't announced on the fixture's list or in last Sunday's match programme that the Clare-Galway MHC semi-final would go to a replay in the event of finishing level after 60 minutes, it was hardly surprising there was a misunderstanding.
Still, that's a small glitch, unlike the basic principle of sending any semi-final to extra-time. Would it really undermine the whole fixtures' structure if Clare and Galway minors, who produced an outstanding contest, were allowed to call it quits after an hour and go to a replay? Don't think so.
