Noel McGrath bagged 10 points as UCD overcame their Dublin rivals in a closely fought game to seal a quarter-final spot.
McGrath and Seanie McGrath exchanged early frees before UCD's Jack Guiney hit the back of the net with an unstoppable shot.
McGrath fired over a further three points, but DCU stayed in touch through four Seanie McGrath frees. Padraig Breheny's point just before the half-time whistle left the score at 1-9 to 0-8 in UCD's favour.
DCU started the better after the interval, with McGrath hitting two early frees. UCD hit back through McGrath, who again exchanged a couple of scores with his namesake.
DCU scored a well-deserved goal with 13 minutes left through substitute Mark Aylward to set up an exciting climax, but their lack of discipline let them down as they provided McGrath with two straightforward frees.
UCD scored five unanswered points in the final five minutes to run out six-point winners.
