McCarthy issue set for airing

The Limerick hurling saga looks set for an airing after all at the next County Board meeting next Tuesday.
Discussion at Monday night's west Limerick Board meeting was avoided, but some clubs present have vowed to raise it next week.
Members of the West Limerick Board apparently had discussions with some of the 2009 squad members with a view to raising it on Monday night. But that discussion never fully materialised.
Some clubs at the meeting did, however, indicate that they would be raising the matter next week.
At the last Limerick County Board meeting, which took place on the night after the players had issued a 1,600-word statement, neither the issue nor the statement were discussed.
Only five members of Justin McCarthy's 2009 squad remain, with 12 axed in October and another 12 'downing' hurls in protest at the way the purge took place. Another player has since left the 2010 squad to devote more time to his studies.
