Despite remaining under fire, Limerick hurling manager Justin McCarthy preferred to focus on on-field activities after seeing his side draw 0-18 apiece with Wexford at Mallow, Co Cork, on Saturday afternoon.

The morning of the game, former Limerick captain TJ Ryan had said in the national media that the only resolution to the current impasse on Shannonside was for the Corkman to step aside.

However, there are no immediate signs of that happening and McCarthy is pressing ahead with his plans for the new season with a largely new panel.

Against a Wexford side that was also light on established names, Limerick managed to fight back to claim a draw, sub Conor Allis with the equaliser in injury-time. McCarthy declared himself happy afterwards.

"All I'll say is that I'm pleased we got a game there today and all the lads got a run-out," he said. "I was delighted with the support we got as well, and the effort in particular.

"I was very pleased with the spirit shown to come back, it was very good."
