Mayo open defence against Sligo

Friday December 04 2009

Champions Mayo will open the defence of their Connacht title in a live televised encounter with Sligo at Markievicz Park next June.

The clash between John O'Mahony's men and 2007 winners Sligo has been switched to a Saturday evening, so that it can be shown live on RTE on June 5.

Indeed, if Mayo are to again emerge from Connacht, they will do so playing all their games on live television.

The winners of their clash with Sligo will meet Galway -- presuming they defeat New York -- in a game which will be broadcast by TV3 on June 27.

That game will go ahead at the revamped McHale Park if Mayo advance, but Sligo will have to travel to Galway if Kevin Walsh's side win the first round clash.

The Connacht championship will start on May 2, when Galway travel to play New York, while later that month, Roscommon will go to Ruislip to play London.

The winners of that clash will meet Leitrim in the semi-finals.

The Connacht final will take place on Sunday, July 18 and will be televised by TV3 -- with a replay six days later if necessary.
