Malone on song for borris

Borris VS 2-14 Scoil Aireagail 1-10
LEINSTER vs sh 'a'

A short scoring blast which yielded 1-3, followed by a goal just on half-time, put Borris VS in the driving seat in this tough and uncompromising clash in Ballyhale yesterday.

The early exchanges were even, but then Borris hit Scoil Aireagail with a flurry of scoring.

First came a goal from top scorer Michael Malone and this was quickly followed by points from wing-back Diarmuid Byrne and the dangerous Malone to give them the upper hand.

When Emmet Foley bagged a goal just before the interval to put the Carlow school 2-7 to 0-4 ahead, they looked on course for a handy win.

However, Scoil Aireagail charged back into the game after the turn.

With freetaker Ronan Corcoran eating into the arrears all the time, and then Colm Phelan adding a goal, they got within striking distance moving into the closing quarter.

However, defender-turned- attacker Malone, who had a stormer, hit a brace of scores to take the sting out of Scoil Aireagail's fightback, and Borris eased to a comfortable win in the end.
