Leitrim SHC Final Replay

(After extra-time)

Gortletteragh bridged a 13-year gap when they emerged as winners of the inaugural Stephen Dorrigan Cup following extra-time in a highly enjoyable and exciting replayed decider at Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada, Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday afternoon.

Two Gortletteragh goals at either end of the first half by Noel Beirne gave last year's beaten finalists a deserved 2-3 to 0-4 lead at the break.

However, in a dramatic second half, Cluainin, led by the outstanding wing-forward Gary Hickey, dominated possession and territory, pinning their opponents back in their half for most of the game.

In a tour de force of a performance, Hickey scored all of his team's second-half total of 1-4 to Gortletteragh's two points, the equalising point coming in the second minute of added-time to once again leave the sides level (2-5 to 1-8) at the end of normal time.

The Manorhamilton side led by a point at the end of the first period of extra-time and looked like causing a shock until six minutes from the end when Eanna Madden latched onto a loose ball at the edge of the square to score Gortletteragh's third goal to seal a monumental triumph and break Cluainin hearts.
