LIMERICK are within touching distance of a first success at his level since 1984 after stunning holders and All-Ireland champions Tipperary at Semple Stadium.

Ronan Lynch scored 1-7 – including 1-6 from placed balls – as Brian Ryan's minors joined the Limerick seniors on the provincial final double-bill, fixed for July 14 at the Gaelic Grounds.

The Shannonside hurling revolution continues apace as Limerick have now beaten Tipperary in both the minor and senior provincial semi-finals this summer.

And Ryan's young charges were full value for their win as Tipp lost their grip on their Munster and All-Ireland crowns as there's no back door for William Maher's side, who were outscored by 0-3 to 1-7 in the final 20 minutes.

In front of 3,314 spectators in Thurles, Tipp led by 0-12 to 0-10 at the end of a first half dominated by opposing centre half-forwards Colin O'Riordan and David Dempsey.

But it was Dempsey and Limerick who would have the last laugh and, after Tipp moved 0-14 to 0-10 in front early in the second half, Limerick dominated the remainder of the game.

On a beautiful evening for hurling, it was Lynch's 53rd-minute penalty that ultimately separated the sides.

Thomas Morrissey was given the benefit of the doubt by referee Damien Fox for the award, when Tipp protested that the sub was charging after he pulled off a superb catch. Lynch held his nerve to drill home a goal that sent Limerick through to their first final since 2005.
