Linnane class too much for Na Piarsaigh

In a devastating display of efficient hurling and taking scores, Turloughmore proved too strong for a strongly fancied Na Piarsaigh side in Cusack Park yesterday.
In winning, Turloughmore became only the second Galway club after Loughrea to lift the Christy Ring, and Sean Linnane became the first of his famed clan to lift an All-Ireland trophy as captain.
In searing heat, the class of Richard Doyle, Conor Shaughnessy, Jamie Holland and Linnane -- nephew of Galway legend Sylvie -- shone through to leave Turloughmore comfortable leaders at the interval, 0-6 to 0-2.
Jonathan Woods opened the scoring for the Cork side, with Doyle responding for the Galway champions after 10 minutes. At this stage exchanges were equal, but soon this changed as Turloughmore changed gears and dominated the final 10 minutes of the first half.
Linnane, with scores in the 10th, 11th and 13th minutes, allied to successful efforts from Doyle, surged their club five points clear.
The final score of the first half fell to Na Piarsaigh's Dayne Lee to give them hope as they trailed by four points at the break but were guilty of notching up a number of poor wides when chances were available.
Na Piarsaigh required goals in the second half but to their dismay Turloughmore blitzed them in the first five minutes of the new half with further scores from Doyle, Linnane, Cathal Whelan and the magnificent Shaughnessy, who starred at left half-back.
Padraig Guest, however, responded for Na Piarsaigh with 1-1 in four minutes to reduce the deficit to a goal. Doyle once again and Jamie Holland from a free extended the Galway's side's lead and all that Na Piarsaigh could muster in the final moments bar a few flashing efforts across the bows of the Galwegians was a point from Eric O'Shea.
Turloughmore attacked in the final moments but never really needed another score as their defence of Keith Herwood and Ultan Hurney was scrooge-like and Na Piarsaigh had to be content with a runner-up spot.
