Leaders Monaghan march on as McHugh haul sinks toothless Breffni
South Down 2-21
Monaghan consolidated their place at the top of the table with a resounding victory over a punchless Cavan side at Kingspan/Breffni Park.
Sean Leonard's goal put the visitors 1-4 to 0-0 in front after only seven minutes. Cavan's only scorer Bernard Gaffney opened his account in the 11th minute but could not prevent the hosts slipping 1-9 to 0-5 behind by half-time.
Michael McHugh rubbed salt in their wounds on the restart, racking up a haul of 0-10, and with Monaghan keeper Ruddy making a string of point-blank saves, Cavan could not get the goals they needed to get back in the game.
